Music Theory

If you are luck enough to live near a coffee shop like the Rush Rush you might want to try this. Grab a laptop, yours or anybody’s nearby head out the door and down to the café. You’ll also need a favorite cd and headphones. Staying away from heavy metal or electronic for this project is suggested. When entering keep an eye out for a solitary table, preferably near a door. Once the purchase has been made take your cup to your selected perch and settle in. Getting the laptop fired up and a cd playing is simple but now you have to find something to do which will occupy your mind but not distract you from the show around you. I like answering junk e-mails as it gives the impression of importance for those watching me watching others. Wait though, I have a memory of already suggesting this but oh well repetition like a repeating heart beat is okay.

All good shows need a strong musical background. My music selections are usually non-vocal and often symphonic but a good Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, Green Day or even Blink 182 will do. The current favorite is the soundtrack from Across the Universe. There is nothing quite like listening as a choir sings Let It Be while a debate is unfolding before your eyes. Let there be a brief pause and then the show will begin. Gestures captured in snapshot will become as a painting. Facial expressions without words will tell a language of their own, and so will the hand gestures. Soon you’ll see that Italians don’t need words! While the opening and closing of doors unfold into statements of their own punctuating the rhythm of the night you start getting a feeling for the pulse of the day. And all of this is done from one spot without having to travel far and near to any of the world’s “spiritual power centers!” Each person’s gait adds to the rhythm while smiles, gestures and manners give voice to the melody.

Next the song of the culture starts to be heard. Are doors held open or are moments with a stranger shared. Add those who bring joy to those around them always seem happier, smarter and just someone you might want to invite home to dinner. The music bubbles around them. Who shares a table and what group claims more than theirs? Are the tables cleaned or left to others? The yin and yang is ever present moderating this flow of life. Sounding as if someone has fallen into the cymbals the motorcycles arrive only to be followed by Lady GaGa Jr. Meanwhile out on the patio a scene from the Mid East or maybe South East Asia is unfolding. The men gather for their evening coffee after a day of work or a day on the golf course. Next t o those the youth of the world are starting to rise for the evening. A counter melody can be seen when young gent gets up and leaves the lady to follow with or without trash.

Gazing past the patio and across the desert lake the sky starts to glow in pink and rose as the sun descends. The lights start to come on and the abode of Raven is lit up but no one is home as we never see her anymore. She has flown the coop but the melody lingers on.

Soon you sense that all of those present are moving to the rhythm of your music and if you’re lucky there will be a shadow over your table. A lady with dark Latin eyes is smiling down upon you. These aren’t the challenging WASP eyes but the dark wondering eyes of our Southern neighbors. Who are you and what do you do is the question? She comes from a culture that is a protector of poetry and she too can hear the music and knows of soul. Taking off my headphones the roar of the crowd rushed in and I answered that I’m watching a play. She smiles and says that we’ll meet later for coffee.

And so with headphones off close the computer and join the dance.

Keep smiling because its worth it.

Good quote of Alan Watts… yes, we all make our own movies and sometimes we induce the actors to act out our scripts. I’ve got a friend from college over for a couple of days. So I will be in ‘catch-up’ mode. To think we both survived the 60′s without incarceration!
    Cheers!

That’s what i like , my dear old friend, Ralpho…Just be going along minding your own business …contemplating the musings of the day / week, whatever.. but not too seriously engaged not to notice the sweet Latina temptress about to pull you away from your awakened dreamworld. Yeah , these ladies do have a way of pulling down our reactive reflexes and barriers , don’t they, Mr. Muzio…anyway , I’m still thinking about the original seduction of my wandering soul some 33 yrs’ ago, almost to the day I met my better half….keep on dreamin’ want to know more about this engagement….Frank by the coastside…
